while some people may have found the ending "unfinished" or just plain horrible, i personally think that the ending of lord of the flies was a great one. showing the inner thoughts of the officers was definitely used to show how other's perceive things on first glance. the navy officers knew nothing of what the boys had gone through during their stay on the island and yet their thoughts seemed almost judgmental. i think that golding was showing how others looking at those who are in lower positions- keeping in mind of the time that he wrote the story, those in lower positions were looked at a inferior.
