if the readers trust the narrator then the readers would trust him/her when they say they didn't kill someone. then when the truth comes out the reader would be surprise and expect more from the story like how they killed the person. how they hid the body and why they did what they did.

2) you will not see many old oak-trees, and animals will disappear if you don't care of them?
