Loved is the past-tense form, in which the love is gone already.

"He loved you much, with all his heart." It is the act that says that the person loved you, and most likely had already passed away.  It can also be used in such as a way as:

"I used to have loved her." This means that previously, He had "loved" her, but now he lost the warm feeling towards her.
