Write a character analysis: one character in two mediums
select a short story that you have read in this course. then, select a movie/tv show , a another artistic medium—that represents the same subject/theme or an important similar scene in the story. write a 4-5 paragraph essay, times new roman, 12 point font, comparing and contrasting paragraph analysis of the characters. in what ways are the two similar? in what ways are they different? don’t forget to analyze the character
use these guidelines for planning and writing:
• identify the character’s name, the title of the work, and the author.
• organize your analysis around a thesis that you state in the introductory paragraph.
• your thesis should involve one or more-character traits or motivations and how they contribute to the development of that character, other characters, plot, or theme.
• develop the thesis in the body of the analysis, supporting your ideas with evidence from the fiction text
• how does the medium affect your impression of the story? are the impressions each creates different?
• focus on how the two versions of the idea convey an important meaning of the story.
• choose one organizational pattern—either block structure or point-by-point structure—and stick to it.
• you may want to create a venn diagram or a compare and contrast chart to you organize the information. don’t turn in a venn diagram for the assignment!
• make sure your essay has an introduction, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.

What caused the american civil war? there were many reasons for a civil war to happen in america, and political issues and disagreements began soon after the american revolution ended in 1782. between the years 1800 and 1860, arguments between the north and south grew more intense. one of the main quarrels was about taxes paid on goods brought into this country from foreign countries. this tax was called a tariff. southerners felt these tariffs were unfair and aimed toward them because they imported a wider variety of goods than most northern people. taxes were also placed on many southern goods that were shipped to foreign countries, an expense that was not always applied to northern goods of equal value. an awkward economic structure allowed states and private transportation companies to do this, which also affected southern banks that found themselves paying higher interest rates on loans made with banks in the north. the situation grew worse after several “panics,” including one in 1857 that affected more northern banks than southern. southern financiers found themselves burdened with high payments just to save northern banks that had suffered financial losses through poor investment. which sentence from the selection states a major detail that supports the main idea? a there were many reasons for a civil war to happen in america, and political issues and disagreements began soon after the american revolution ended in 1782. b taxes were also placed on many southern goods that were shipped to foreign countries, an expense that was not always applied to northern goods of equal value. c the situation grew worse after several "panics," including one in 1857 that affected more northern banks than southern. d this tax was called a tariff. e between the years 1800 and 1860, arguments between the north and south grew more intense.

Read the excerpt from "a defence of poetry.” poetry thus makes immortal all that is best and most beautiful in the world; it arrests the vanishing apparitions which haunt the interlunations of life, and veiling them, or in language or in form, sends them forth among mankind, bearing sweet news of kindred joy to those with whom their sisters abide—abide, because there is no portal of expression from the caverns of the spirit which they inhabit into the universe of things. poetry redeems from decay the visitations of the divinity in man. which details from the excerpt provide more information about shelley’s idea that poetry "makes immortal all that is best and most beautiful in the world”? check all that apply. arrests the vanishing apparitions which haunt the interlunations of life sends them forth among mankind, bearing sweet news to those with whom their sisters abide no portal of expression from the caverns of the spirit redeems from decay the visitations of the divinity in man
