Realism was about an attempt to paint a truthful representation of reality, but even so most artists never strove to "paint' a photograph, there was still some interpretation and subjective "point of view" involved. not as much as impressionism, for sure, but some nevertheless. can anyone characterize then, in what ways realism and impressionism were the same?
