Compare and contrast the poem “ we real cool “ by gwendolyn brooks with the poem “ im nobody” by emily dickinson

Right off the bat, these two poems have very different names. "I'm Nobody! Who are you?" has a very different mood and tone than "We real cool."

Emily Dickinson's poem involves the narrator meeting somebody else, greeting them by saying "I'm nobody." This in itself creates a depressing mood, which is masked behind the repetitive use of exclamation points.

Gwendolyn Brooks wrote her poem differently, however. Her and Emily's poem are similar in length and structure, but of course, they aren't identical.

Gwendolyn's poem involves a group of some sort (which would be why she used "We") that leave school and have fun. It creates a rebellious scenario, which is very different than Emily's poem. However, at the end of Gwendolyn's poem, she uses the line

"Jazz June. We

Die soon."
