First, take into account that in this chapter after a man felt down in the crater the Martians emerged from a cylinder and the crowd saw how was the aspect of them. Everybody expected a Martian with a human alike figure, but, they have long tentacles, their bodies were the size of a giant bear and their skin seemed wet leather. The author described how was this first encounter of the creature from the cylinder.  At that moment the people who were watching the Martians started to run desperately, people were really scared. There was a lot of chaos and disorder. For chapter four,  a good topic sentence would be: the fear caused by the creatures with horrendous aspects made people run from the place where the cylinder was landed.

and idk what you mean by domain, but all of the sensory details will depend on where the bat is.

a bat doesn't see color very well, so its surroundings will be dulled.

it can hear super well. so maybe it can hear the insects on the ground

feelings. you can imagine how a bat would feel from its perspective. it all depends on where it lives.

maybe it can taste the salt in the air, or smell water, or something. all of these details are completely dependent on where it is located.
