In the excerpt from "Annabel Lee," by Edgar Allan Poe, the speaker gives the impression to be a man in whom he is in love with Annabel Lee, and they seem to be deeply in love. However, his common sense is doubted when he claims the angels kill Annabel because they are jealous of her and when he expresses that he is lying on his lover's tomb. As a result of his insanity, the accuracy of the information in the poem is questioned, which makes him an unreliable narrator. Nevertheless, he details the story with such intensity and passion that different narrator would not have caused the same effect.
