In her article A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many, One?, Anna Quindlen describes how America is a nation of people from various different ethnic backgrounds and how these people interact with each other.  Quindlen reminisces about America's past and how people often took pride in their ancestry which, led to hatred, bigotry and violence. Quindlen also questions whether school aged children can really believe all the wonderful things they hear about their country in school when all they see on the news is violence and hatred between fellow Americans.

Although I understand Quindlen's position on America I believe her article to be pessimistic in nature. I also believe she over analyzes racial and social tensions. . The Arabs and the Jews didn't come to America to move their race war to a new location, but to create a better life for themselves and their families away from the hatred and intolerance in the Middle East. Despite my disagreement with Quindlen's point of view I believe the article is a valuable, and well written analysis of America's diverse, multicultural population.
