many new writers think that the climax happens in the middle of a story. they think that after they create the climax, they must write a second half to the story before they can wrap it up. this couldn't be more wrong. once you have created your climax and played it out for the readers, it is time to start tying up loose ends with a resolution. the resolution follows the climax.

the resolution is the solution to the story's conflict. in the story above, it might be where jane accepts the invitation to dinner after learning john really doesn't mind if she can't have children. he already has one; he doesn't care if he has more or not.
