Honestly recognition get's your name more known and brings more attention to you but I your work isn't good then it's useless. Your work would most likely be more important because even without the recognition if you have great work it will still reach lots of people. On the other hand if you really think about it though, they go hand in hand one without the other would be detrimental to your success. Yet, if it has to be one or the other, your work is more important. Work is like money and recognition is like fame, and obviously money in this example is more important than fame.
