Julie reads the following passage:
snoopy is the ultimate dog. despite the fact that he often pounds on the door with his foot, snoopy always brings his supper bowl to be refilled, saving his human the problem of having to locate the food bowl. he also has leadership abilities, heading the beagle scouts with his followers, the birds. while he does have a competitive spirit, as can be seen when he's playing tennis, hockey, or other sports, he also has a soft-hearted side, as evidenced by the times he cuddles up with charlie brown. since snoopy is a loyal companion, he's always willing to lend a paw whether it be to charlie brown or any of his friends.
julie realizes that the author's claim (purpose) is in the first sentence. the rest of the paragraph is spent providing examples. she notices that the examples do seem to work to prove the claim in the first sentence. by thinking about the evidence the author provides, julie is:
: a. reading and responding b. interpreting c. evaluating
