Usually sarcasm is defined as a sneering remark, often with bitter humour. The Greek verb it's derived from means "render flesh, bite, sneer", e.g. Oscar Wilde's description of a fox hunt: "The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable" Another example would be the anecdote told about the Nobel-prize laureate and the actress: Actress: "I would love to bear your child. Imagine a human being with your brains and my looks!" Scientist:" No way. The child might have my looks and your brains !"
