Freytag's Pyramid is a diagram that presents the structure of the plot of a literary work.  It was developed by Gustav Freytag, a German novelist, in 1863 mainly to deal with the structure of tragedy. Freytag's Pyramid is based on the plot structure introduced by Aristotle; however, Freytag made some changes to this structure since he added the rising action and the falling action. In that way, Freytag's Pyramid shows the five sections of a plot: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.
