What is the best response for the meaning of the story’s title, a farewell to arms?

Although the theme "A Farewell to Arms" is a description of the horrors of World War I, it is also a romance between a soldier and his lover who decides to flee, and the soldier's decision to say "farewell" to the army and  weapons. According to the criticism, the word "arms" in the title has a dual meaning, like a weapon and as embracing arms of human beings, which fits into the context of romance, as part of a story.
