Mond is a character from the book Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley.

According to this character, for society to reach stability and, as a consequence, happiness, it is necessary to let go of passions and overpowering emotions.

The world described in this story is one in which people are not naturally born, but created. Those who are lucky to be created Alphas are the ones who perform intellectual tasks. Others, however, are created to be less intelligent so that they will enjoy performing other types of tasks.

Even though social stability is important, it should not come at the expense of individuality and free will. Society should be able to offer freedom for individuals to choose, to feel, to love and to live. Stability cannot be called happiness merely because it makes people satisfied, especially if such satisfaction means not knowing of other possibilities, other choices to be made.

Not being satisfied is, actually, what brings change and evolution. If that is taken away from people, they become fleshy robots who will take any input, who will buy what they're told, go where they're told, do what they're told. If satisfaction becomes a synonym for inertia, it means nothing at all.
