For an assignment, i'm required to provide an alternate ending for the story "the tell-tale heart" by edgar allan poe. all i request is another pair of eyes to proofread my entry and tell me if anything needs fixing. ( and you.) the alternate ending is meant to look similar to the original story (aka, told from the same perspective, it doesn't look like the ending was improvised by an amateur) generally, the ending should look as if it was written by poe himself. not exactly, mind you, but it should mimic the qualities of his writing. alternate ending | the time had come! i rushed into the room, crying, “die! die! ” but instead, the old man sat up in bed, the fear clear in his eyes, and wrapped the sheets around my neck as i lept upon him. i could hear the blood rushing through my ears, i could hear the old man’s heart pound and pound. it was so loud, everything is too loud! i struggled, i kicked, but he held me firm. air! i need to breathe! his eye looked down at me, suffocating. my lungs! desperate for air. stop looking at me! let me but he continued. i could feel myself grow weak, and i looked into his eye. the old man was no longer shaking. he looked down back at me, only this time with the greatest smile on his face. and i smiled back.

Read the excerpt. while i am i, and you are you, so long as the world contains us both, me the loving and you the loth, while the one eludes, must the other pursue. what do these lines, from “life in a love” by robert browning, convey about the speaker’s pursuit of his beloved? eventually, they will switch roles, and she will chase him. he will try to win her love for as long as they are both alive. if they lived in a different time and place, he would not love her. they are meant for each other, and he is certain that they will be together.
