The Shakespearean sonnet has the rhyme scheme;

ABAB CDCD EFEF GG  

When we were children,  A

We used to play all the time.  B

I remember back then,  A

When everything was fine.  B

Now we're older,  C

We go out, we dine,  D

The nights get colder,  C

I should have seen the sign.  D

Now I'm waiting on a letter,  E

It should come in time...  F

If only I'd known better.  E

You were never really mine.  F

Wanting what was never ours,  G

Can leave us wishing upon the stars. G

In order to make a Shakespearean sonnet, you need to utilize the pattern:

ABAB CDCD EFEF GG
