The origin of this nursery rhyme could come from a legend or from History. The legend tells the rhyme refers to a prosperous wool town localed in London. History tells the rhyme represents an agreement made between England and Scotland during the Stuart's reign.

The poetic traits: alliteration is used. Some consonats are repeated : " crooked man , crooked mile "; " all lived little crooked..". The word " crooked" is repeated all over the rhyme. The rhyme is also to be considered: "mile with stile" ; " mouse with house". They end with the same sound. The couplet has got this pattern AABB.

The effect of the sound devices make the rhyme suitable for little kids. Kids enjoy the sound of words, so if these get to be repeated kids will feel pleasure for some time. Repetition makes pleasure last. The rhythm pattern makes the text suitable to be sung and danced. Kids love moving their bodies. The sound devices add a soothing and pleasant effect that will make children have a good time.
