"i know how it will be," his sister had said when he was preparing to migrate to this rural retreat; "you will bury yourself down there and not speak to a living soul, and your nerves will be worse than ever from moping. i shall just give you letters of introduction to all the people i know there. some of them, as far as i can remember, were quite nice." what effect does the flashback have on the text? a. it reveals that framton is a high-strung person who doesn't enjoy socializing. b. it shows readers important information about framton, specifically framton's intense fear of dogs. c. the flashback generates suspense by revealing that framton isn't telling vera or mrs. stapleton the truth about his past. d. by using flashback, the author hints that framton and mrs. stapleton have a history together.

" Privately he doubted more than ever whether these formal visits on a succession of total strangers would do much towards helping the nerve cure which he was supposed to be undergoing." This is what the writer wrote before the flashback. Framton was undergoing a nervous breakdown and needed to get bettet . Yet, his sister gave information about Framton. He did not like talking to people. He would continue complaining  about his health - moping-  . Framton seemed to be a hypochondriac. As a consequence, he became the perfect target for Vera's joke.

each year on this day, i make it a point to listen to dr. martin luther king jr.’s great “i have a dream” speech. it’s electrifying every single time.

the content of dr. king’s speech, his inspiring presence, and the moment in history all came together to make the iconic “i have a dream” speech the defining moment of the american civil rights movement. but there are several other reasons why this speech, delivered over 50 years ago, remains an example of one of the best speeches in american history.

since part of my job is to people become better presenters, i’ve noticed several techniques that we can all learn from and be inspired by in this magnificent speech.

in most cases, you can’t handpick the spot to give a presentation, as mlk did for supreme symbolic effect when he stood on the steps of the lincoln memorial and echoed the opening words of the gettysburg address (“five score years ago . . ). but you absolutely can amplify your message by adapting it to your setting and location.
