How does the author develop annie's character during the walk? in a walk to the jetty

Since the very beginning of annie's wake Up, the author takes her on a brief journey to her past, making her feel nostalgic. Annie's also painted thoughful because she feels the need of creating a new identity in a different place. Finally, author shows her like a little girl very attached to her parents and afraid of the new adventure.
