Jane Eyre could be an expression of Charlotte Brontë's own personality, as it is implied in any autobiography. The characters seem to be aspects of Jane. Brontë uses the medium of the novel to play out this conflict among her characters. It the way Brontë tells its own story.

Along the chapters, the tension is established between different elements of reason, supported by St John, or the of passion and emotions of Bertha, exemplifies the way Jane responds to this contradictory feelings and emotions.  

The tension between Jane and Brönthe takes place in her own head. Brontë is able to portray this tension through her characters and shows the dramatical moments in the life of a woman who seeks balance and internal peace.
