Now state reasons and pieces of evidence to support why you believe that the settlers were convinced by this message. You could site the rhetorical appeal called logos which appeals to logical reasoning. Facts, figures, and historical accounts are used to support this. Edward used scriptures, illustrations, and historical accounts to support the fact that God will punish sinners in hell. He also appealed to their emotions by painting pictures that caused fear.

Read and familiarize yourself with the content of Edward's sermon. Also note that after Edward's sermon, the people moaned greatly and called on him to stop the message because of the feelings of sorrow the sermon evoked on them.
