What does the speaker mean by the line "nor hungry wolves at him shall catch" in the poem "as weary pilgrim, now at rest"?

he hungry wolves are perhaps a metaphor for people who wished ill of the pilgrim. These people may have snapped at his heels at the slightest provocation or may even have attacked him in packs. Now that death has taken the pilgrim, these wolves cannot harm him anymore.
