technically, they are more so a bit more different than related, but any normal person would just say "yeah, they're similar." and won't even stop to think of what you asked. interesting means that you are interested in it right now and that it's currently happening. interested means that you were into for that certain amount of time, but now it's probably not that interesting to you.
