I recently finished brown girl dreaming. it is a true story about a young black girl named jacqueline woodson growing up in the sixties who faces difficulty in multiple situations. her older sister has been labeled a genius since she could pick up a book and her brother is an amazingly talented singer. she struggles to find her place in the world when suddenly she is swooped up from everything she’s ever known and dropped in the middle of new york city. she faces difficulties getting used to the city life compared to her easy, relaxing life in south carolina. but she has always been a talented writer, that’s her escape. she creates poems and short books about everything.
