Traceroute program is used to find the network paths and round-trip delays between source host and destination host. Open your command prompt running on a Linux system and run the traceroute program at command prompt using the following command:
traceroute < destination – host address>
Example: traceroute www. cs. test. uni. edu
The output of traceroute program contains 6 columns.
1st column: the number of router along the path or route
2nd column: name of the router
3rd column: IP address of the router
4th column: round-trip delay (1st experiment)
5th column: round-trip delay (2nd experiment)
6th column: round-trip delay (3rd experiment)
