To design a dc bias circuit, some reasonable approximations may be used. The first assumption is the voltage from emitter to ground. VE is typically one-fifth to one-tenth of the

supply voltage, VCC. Selecting the emitter voltage in this way will permit calculating the

emitter resistance, RE and then the collector resistance, RC by using the following equations:

VE ≈ 1 / 10 VCC

RE ≈ VE / IC

RC = (VCC - VCE - VE) / IC

Hence, the base voltage is approximately equal to the emitter voltage,

or more exactly, VB = VE + VBE.

Finally, determine the values for the base resistors, RB1 and RB2 by approximating

RB2 ≤ 1/ 10 ( βRE )

RB1 can be obtained by using the following equation,

VB = RB2

/ (RB2 + RB1 ) ( VCC )

Now, by referring to the proposed circuit as shown in Figure 1, select appropriate values for

RB1

, RB2

, RC and RE. Simulate the circuit and print the output waveform, Vo for a sinusoidal

input signal of 10mV at frequency 1kHz.
