5-A screw clamp similar to the one shown in the figure has a handle with diameter 3/8 in made of cold-drawn AISI 1006 steel. The overall length is 4.25 in. The screw is 3/4 in-10 UNC and is 8 in long, overall. Distance A is 3 in. The clamp will accommodate parts up to 6 in high.
(a) What screw torque will cause the handle to bend permanently?
(b) What clamping force will the answer to part (a) cause if the collar friction is neglected and if the thread friction is 0.15?
(c) What clamping force will cause the screw to buckle?
(d) Are there any other stresses or possible failures to be checked?

Amixture of slurry and mud is to be pumped through a horizontal pipe of diameter 500 mm. the fluid behaves as a bingham plastic with a yield stress of 30 pa and viscosity 0.04 pa.s. describe the effects of the shear stress through a transverse section of the pipe by plotting the variation in shear stress and velocity profile: (i) just before the slurry starts to move (ii) as the slurry flows when the pressure gradient is double that in part (i)

Aparticle moves along a straight line such that its acceleration is a=(4t^2-2) m/s, where t is in seconds. when t = 0, the particle is located 2 m to the left of the origin, and when t = 2, it is 20 m to the left of the origin. determine the position of the particle when t=4s.
