It has been reported that Americans as a whole (300 million of us) ingest a total of approximately 8 tons/day of lead from corrosion of water pipes and lead-tin solder in older potable water distribution systems. The drinking water standard for lead is 0.05 mg/L total soluble lead. One method for removing heavy metals such as lead is pH adjustment to precipitate the metal hydroxide.
Required:
a. Draw a diagram that shows the concentration of all the lead hydroxide complexes in a saturated solution.
b. Using the logarithmic concentration diagram, determine the minimum solubility of lead (in mg/L as Pb) in water.
