A 100-mm-long cylindrical rod of an unknown metal has been cold worked to achieve the following tensile stress-strain behavior. Based on the following selected Load and Sample Length data from a tensile test and the specimen measurements, calculate: Young's modulus, E (GPa); Ultimate Tensile Strength (MPa); % Elongation, and True Stress at Fracture [MPa] Assume the data are perfectly precise and accurate over the whole range. Yield occurs at 5,500 N, maximum load occurs at 22,000 N and fracture occurs at 18,000 N. The initial diameter is 10 mm and the final diameter at fracture is 6 mm. It may be useful to make a plot of your data.
Load
(N) 0 2750 5500 15000 20000 22000 18000
Length (mm) 100 100.03 100.06 104 110 115 120
i) E = GPa
ii) UTS = MPa
iii) %EL =
iv) OTS MPа
b) (4 points) Based on the plots (on the equation sheet) and your calculations of ultimate tensile strength and ductility, which metal is this and how much was it cold worked before being tested?

Steam at a pressure of 100 kpa and a quality of 50% initially fills a rigid vessel having a volume of 0.5 m^3. the steam is then heated, causing the pressure in the vessel to rise to 150 kpa. determine: i. the mass of the steam in the vessel. ii. the temperature and quality of the steam after the heating process. ii the mass of the vapour, mg and liquid, m in the vessel after the heating process. if the steam in the vessel is now further heated, what would the pressure and temperature in the vessel be when all steam has turned into saturated vapour? b. sketch the processes in part (a) and part (b) on p-v and t-v diagrams, indicating clearly the temperatures, pressures and the paths. c.
