You company is in the business of making computer monitors. Through a market survey, the company has identified a demand for a new computer monitor product and has also determined that the market would bear a unit price of $207. To manufacture this new product, however, the company will need to invest in a new production assembly line. You are asked by your boss to consider two options of production assembly lines. • Option #1: A labor-intensive process which has a fixed cost of $348,000 and a variable cost of $153 per monitor.
• Option #2: A highly automated process (capital intensive) that has a fixed costs of $1,264,000 and a variable cost of $94.5 per monitor.
Your job is to figure out how many computer monitors the company has to produce (and sell) to justify the high cost of initial investment for Option #1.

Air is to be cooled in the evaporator section of a refrigerator by passing it over a bank of 0.8-cm-outer-diameter and 0.4-m-long tubes inside which the refrigerant is evaporating at -20°c. air approaches the tube bank in the normal direction at 0°c and 1 atm with a mean velocity of 4 m/s. the tubes are arranged in-line with longitudinal and transverse pitches of sl- st 1.5 cm. there are 30 rows in the flow direction with 15 tubes in each row. determine (a) the refrigeration capacity of this system and (b) pressure drop across the tube bank. evaluate the air properties at an assumed mean temperature of -5°c and 1 atm. is this a good assumption?
