A piston-cylinder device, whose piston is resting on a set of stops, initially contains 3kg of a saturated liquid-vapor mixture of water at 175kPa. 1.5kg of the water is in the liquid phase and the rest is in the vapor phase. Heat is now transferred to the water, and the piston, which is resting on a set of stops, starts moving when the pressure inside reaches 500kPa. Heat transfer continues until the total volume increases by 25%.
Answer the following:
a. What is the initial temperature?
b. What is the final temperature?
c. What type of work is being done?
d. How much work is done during the process in kJ?
e. How much work is done during the process in kJ/kg?

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.
