SOX and NOX in the flue gas are proposed to be treated using an electron beam treatment scheme in an irradiation vessel. Two different designs of the irradiation vessel – one without baffles and one with baffles – are being evaluated. A pulse tracer injection test is conducted on each vessel to obtain the residence time distribution in the vessel. Use an appropriate one-parameter model to describe the RTDs. Based on the intrinsic kinetics and RTD data, what improvement (if any) might be expected by adding baffles to the vessel?
