A steam power plant consists of a boiler, a two-stage turbine, a pump, and a condenser. Superheated steam enters the first turbine stage at temperature and pressure, Tβ„Žβ„Ž and Pβ„Žβ„Ž, expands to a lower pressure, Pm, is reheated to temperature Tm, and enters the second stage at Tm and Pm. The condenser and boiler pressures are Po and Pβ„Žβ„Ž, respectively, and the isentropic efficiencies of both turbine stages is .a) Sketch the plant schematically and label appropriate state points, letting state 1 correspond to the inlet to the first turbine stage. b) Briefly describe how the isentropic outlet state of the first turbine stage is determined. Hint (and as given in lecture notes): Look at the entropies, 1= supβ„Ž (Tβ„Žβ„Ž,Pβ„Žβ„Ž), and (Pm).c) Assume that we did the analysis in b) and found that state 2 is in the two phase region. Show how the quality, x2, , for an isentropic (first) turbine stage is calculated. d) Show how the isentropic outlet enthalpy, β„Ž2, , for the first turbine stage is determined. e) Show how the actual outlet enthalpy, β„Ž2,, for the first turbine stage is determined. f) Assuming that the inlet and outlet states for the second turbine stage are in the superheated vapor and two phase regions, respectively, show in detail how the inlet enthalpy and the (actual) outlet enthalpy are determined. g) Show in detail how the remaining state enthalpies (across the isentropic pump) are determined. h) Derive (and please don’t simply copy) the thermal efficiency expression, stated in terms of state enthalpies, for this steam power plant.

Two flowing streams of argon gas are adiabatically mixed to form a single flow/stream. one stream is 1.5 kg/s at 400 kpa and 200 c while the second stream is 2kg/s at 500 kpa and 100 ? . it is stated that the exit state of the mixed single flow of argon gas is 150 c and 300 kpa. assuming there is no work output or input during the mixing process, does this process violate either the first or the second law or both? explain and state all your assumptions.

Water in a partially filled large tank is to be supplied to the roof top, which is 8 m above the water level in the tank, through a 2.2-cm-internal-diameter pipe by maintaining a constant air pressure of 300 kpa (gage) in the tank. if the head loss in the piping is 2 m of water, determine the discharge rate of the supply of water to the roof top in liters per second.
