Dry saturated steam flowing at a mass flowrate of 95 lbm/h and a temperature of 120oF is condensed along a 2.5 ft long tube cooled from the outside by liquid water in crossflow. The water temperature is 50oF, and the corresponding heat transfer coefficient between the water and the outer surface of the tube is 240 Btu/h-ft2-oF. The outer diameter of the tube is 6.8 in, the tube wall thickness is 0.25 in, and the thermal conductivity of the tube material is 30 Btu/h-ft-oF. Determine the steam quality at pipe exit.
