Tom and Judy like to use propane to heat a grill for summer barbeques. Starting with a mixture of propane (C3H8) and nitrogen (N2) that enters a condenser at 218 mol/min. The entering mixture is cooled in the condenser until a stream of pure liquid propane is produced. An exiting gas stream has a mole fraction of propane equal to 0.117 and the balance nitrogen. The liquid propane is recovered at a rate of 4.65 L/min. Liquid propane has a density of 0.493 g/cm3.

(a) Draw and label a process flow diagram. Clearly number each stream.

(b) Find the unknown molar flow rate (mol/min) and mole fractions.

(c) Calculate the mass fractions of the feed.

(d) If the exiting flow rate of liquid propane changed to 2.85 kg/min. Did the flow rate of the exiting gas stream increase, decrease or stay the same?
