A constant head permeability test has a soil sample length in the direction of flow of 350 mm, a sample cross sectional area normal to the flow direction of 125 cm2, and a head loss through the sample of 420 mm. The soil sample is a medium dense sand with a void ratio of 0.61. During a 3 minute test period, 580 cm3 of water flowed through the sample. (a) Sketch the Constant Head Permeameter and label the sketch with the appropriate dimensions given above. (b) Determine the Hydraulic conductivity, k, in cm/sec, and the seepage velocity (not just apparent velocity).
