By siphoning, a 50 ft long, 5/8 inch id garden hose begins emptying a large barrel containing water ( = 62.4 lbm/ft3 ,  = 6.1210-4 lbm/ft-s). the water level is 4 ft above ground level where the end of the hose rests. neglecting minor losses a) compute the volumetric flow rate without friction, and b) compute the flow rate accounting for friction (major loss only) assuming the hose is hydraulically smooth. (15.3 gpm, 2.95 gpm) 2-propyl alcohol ( = 802 kg/m3,  = 1.9210-3 kg/m- s) flows through the vertical piping system shown at a rate of 0.0004 m3/s. the piping system consists of 1/2 inch sch 40 commercial steel pipe, ( = 0.0046 cm) with 90 short radius bends (r = 1/2 in). find the change in pressure from pt 1 to pt 2 in kpa.

Acompressor compresses a gas, a pump compresses a liquid. for a given pressure ratio, why does it take more work to compress a gas in a compressor than a liquid in a pump? a)- for a given pressure ratio the average specific volume for a gas is much higher than the average specific volume for a liquid. b)- there is no difference. the only difference is the amount of heat generated (not work) c)- for a given pressure ratio the average volurge for a gas is much higher than the average volume for a liquid. d)-there is no difference
