System Request and Cost-Benefit Analysis (30 points) Note: This homework assignment should be completed individually. By submitting this assignment, you certify that the work you have done is your own. Your answers to this homework may be used by your team later in the semester for the project deliverables. Background: In this assignment, you will create some of the documents associated with the planning phase for your semester project. Specifically, you will create a system request and a costbenefit analysis. Like the real world, you must use your judgment and make rough estimates; create a solid start and details can be added/adjusted later in the project. Instructions: Carefully read the project case description for the hotel conferencing booking case (linked on the TITANium home page). Using the information from the project background, create the following documents: 1. System request. Create a system request for the project based on the information in the project description. Use Figure 1-5 (p. 16 in 6th edition; p. 22 in 5th edition) of the textbook as a template. Your system request should be similar in length and contain the same 5 sections. See also Figure 1-4 for additional details on how to create a system request. (These figures are also in the Powerpoint slides.) 2. Cost-benefit analysis. Using the project description and your own assumptions and estimates where necessary, create a 3-year cost-benefit analysis of the project. You will have to make several assumptions and estimates that will be refined later on in the semester. Welcome to an analyst’s work – using several very rough estimates and ideas early on that are most likely to change later on as you get more details about the project. Use your best judgment. You will be graded on setting up the cost-benefit analysis correctly and thinking about benefits and costs – you will not be graded on dollar values, other than consideration of budgets for development costs as listed in the case description. Use Figure 1-12 (p. 24 in 6th edition; p. 31 in 5th edition) as a template. Consider the types of benefits and costs listed in Figure 1-11 of the textbook (p. 23 in 6th edition; p. 29 in 5th edition), as well as any others you might think of. Calculate ROI. a. Note: Using net present values and break-even points is not required for this assignment. b. Note: A full feasibility analysis (including technical and organizational feasibility considerations) is not required in this homework, due to time constraints (but would be required at this stage in real-life, and will be required of your team later in the semester).
