The wireless sensor network must monitor the forest for fire events (see the picture above). After detecting a fire event, the WSN must notify the fire monitoring station (FMS) within 20 seconds. In other words, after the fire starts (and is large enough to be detected by sensors), there are only 20 seconds to detect the fire and transmit the warning to the FMS. FMS is always powered on, i. e. it can receive data at any time. A single sensor node monitors the area of about 100 meters around the node and the complete area must be monitored (including corners). All nodes are battery-powered, communicate with other nodes using wireless communication.
