You will need to know how to build a server to host your own e-commerce site but will also need to learn how to manipulate data. This includes being able to save and pull data from the server. Once you have this done then the rest is easy since that is the biggest disadvantage of hosting your own site. The biggest advantage is that you have full control over your data and do not have to pay monthly fees and hidden fees to any hosting site.
