An operating system(OS) is a type of software with many types which helps it in accomplishing many tasks.

Its different types are:

batch processing os

distributed os

multiprogramming os etc

Here, the network os and distributed os helps the nodes connected across a network to share information and access resources. Moreover it also provides access to various  hardware components such as printer and file system. OS contain certain scheduling algorithms to coordinate the task between them.
