Based on this reaction, find how many moles of co can be obtained starting with 7 mol ch4?

Solution:

                Methane when treated with water in the presence of catalyst (i.e. Nickle) and high temperature.

produces Carbon monoxide and Hydrogen gas as shown below,

                                              CH₄ + H₂O      →    CO + 3 H₂

According to this equation,

                              1 mole of CH₄ produces = 1 mole of CO

So,

                        7 moles of CH₄ will produce = X moles of CO

Solving for X,

                       X = (7 mole × 1 mole) / 1 mole

                       X = 7 moles of CO
