Three common shapes of galaxies are:

1. Spiral -- This is one of the most common in the visible universe. This is made up of a "disk" of stars, orbiting around a huge central bulge of stars. Spiral galaxies also have "arms" that stick out. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is one of these types.

2. Elliptical -- An elliptical galaxy is one with no clear shape to it, but somehow in the form of an ellipse.

3. Irregular -- As the name implies, it is irregular. This galaxy does not have a shape (or normal one) to it.
