Why doesn’t a solar or lunar eclipse happen every month? the phases of the moon take one year to complete their cycles, so eclipses happen only once a year. the moon’s orbit is slightly tilted with respect to earth, thereby preventing eclipses. the moon’s orbit takes longer than a month to complete its journey around earth. the lighted side of the moon is only apparent a few times a year.
