Natural gas is a fuel that is used for heating and cooking in many homes and buildings. It is composed of almost pure methane, CH₄, and burns with a hot, blue flame. The chemical equation for the burning of methane is show below : CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O

Describe the burning of methane as a chemical reaction by explaining the following :

1. How can you tell from the chemical equation that this is a chemical reaction and not just a physical change ?

2.What observations would you see that indicate a chemical reaction?

3.is it an exothermic or endothermic reaction? What observation support your choice ?

For a research project, a student decided to test the effect of the lead(ii) ion (pb2+) on the ability of salmon eggs to hatch. this ion was obtainable from the water‐soluble salt, lead(ii) nitrate, which the student decided to make by the following reaction. pbo(s) + 2 hno3(aq) → pb(no3)2(aq) + h2o losses of product for various reasons were expected, and a yield of 86.0% was expected. in order to have 5.00 g of product at this yield, how many grams of pbo should be reacted? (assume that sufficient nitric acid, hno3, would be used.)
