1. Mrs. Gussman is riding an all-terrain vehicle through Joshua Tree National Park. She begins her ride in the early morning when the temperature is 19°C, but the temperature in the park will peak at 48°C. Each tire on the ATV holds 9.8 L of gas. The starting pressure of the tires is 80 kPa. Unfortunately, the tires are very worn and will burst when the internal pressure (Pb) reaches 86 kPa. Answer the following questions. You must show each step of your calculations to receive full credit. • How many moles of gas are in each tire?
• What will the tire pressure be during the hottest part of the day?
• Will the tires burst? Explain how you know.
• If you must let gas out of the tire before you go, to what pressure must you reduce the tires before you start your trip? (Assume no significant change in tire volume.)
