Silver nitrate (aq) + sodium chloride (aq) β†’ silver chloride (s) + sodium nitrate (aq) AgNO3 (aq) + NaCl (aq) β†’ AgCl (s) + NaNO3 (aq)

in the above reaction, why do the silver ions form a new compound with the chloride ions but not with the sodium ions?
