Eclipses and Moon Phases Activity a flashlight being used to make the shadow of an eclipse behind a globe
Student sample of a modeled eclipse.
This lesson highlighted eclipses and lunar phases. If you had to teach another person about the difference between the two events, how would you explain it?

Models are a great way to explain a process. For instance, if you used a flashlight as the sun and made a model of Earth and the moon, you could show how an eclipse forms as shown in the student sample.

Choose either eclipses or lunar phases and make a model of the event. Your model can take any form, providing it can explain how your event takes place. Once you have created your model, use it to teach someone else about lunar phases or eclipses. Submit a picture, video, or diagram of your model to your instructor, along with evidence of how you used your model to explain your selected event.

Activity Checklist
Include a picture, video, or diagram of your model of lunar phases or eclipses.
Provide a description of how you made your model and how it demonstrates eclipses or lunar phases.
Include a one-paragraph reflection on the success of your model in explaining your event.
Include the name of the person you taught about your event and that person's description of what they learned from your model.
Be sure to review the grading rubric before you begin.

(hint: use molarity = to find the moles of drink mix, then convert moles to grams using a mole conversion.)what mass of powdered drink mix is needed to make a 0.5 m solution of 100 ml?
